Colonoscopy Instructions

• The day before your colonoscopy, you MAY NOT EAT ANY SOLID FOOD UNTIL AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE IS COMPLETED. You may DRINK ONLY CLEAR LIQUIDS. Clear liquids include:

• Water, Black coffee/tea without milk or creamer, Gatorade/Powerade, clear fruit drinks without pulp, apple juice, white grape or white cranberry juice, clear chicken and beef broth, popsicles, Italian ice, 7up, ginger ale, cola, and jello.

• It is important to drink a lot of clear liquids before your procedure to stay hydrated and to flush stool out of your colon.

• You MAY NOT have anything with RED, PURPLE or NEON colors.

NO DAIRY OR ALCOHOL.

2-Part Prep Instructions: Follow instructions exactly.

First portion of prep instructions:

• The day before your scheduled colonoscopy, you will take HALF (1/2) of your mixed prep between 5 and 7 pm.

• ½ hour after finishing the FIRST part of your prep take 2 GAS-X tablets.

Second portion of prep instructions:

• See below for scheduled time to TAKE SECOND HALF of prep. These times are based off the arrival time that was texted to you. IT IS MANDATORY TO COMPLETE THE SECOND PART OF THE PREP.

• ½ hour after finishing prep, take 2 GAS-X tablets.

NO OTHER FLUIDS (INCLUDING WATER) SHOULD BE CONSUMED AFTER TAKING THE GAS-X UNTIL AFTER YOUR COLONSCOPY.

• BP/Heart/Seizure medications may be taken with a small sip of water IN THE MORNING and must be taken AT LEAST 2 hours before your procedure.

• If the volume of prep is difficult to complete in 2 hours, you may start the prep an hour earlier to allow you to drink slower. DO NOT DRINK FLUIDS PAST THE TIME DIRECTED IN THE CHART ABOVE as this may interfere with anesthesia.

• Please complete the prep as prescribed. You can expect to see clear, yellow, or green rectal discharge at the completion of your prep. IT IS MANDATORY TO COMPLETE THE ENTIRE PREP AS PRESCRIBED.
